Veterans in custody, and their families, needed for research
Barnardo’s NICCO (National Information Centre for Children of Offenders) has been funded by Forces in Mind Trust to conduct a needs assessment of veterans in custody, their families and children.
The intention of this work is to develop an understanding of the needs and experiences of the whole family unit, alongside key public and third sector organisations working with veterans in (prior to, during and post) custody and their families.
The research will conclude with a written report and a launch event in November 2019, disseminating the findings and opportunities for involved partners to take the recommendations forward. Therefore, this whole family approach will contribute towards improving outcomes for veterans involved in the criminal justice system and their families in the future.
Right now, we are looking to speak to:
- Male veteran ex-offenders (released in the last 48mths)
- Partners/co-parents of veterans in custody/ex-offenders
- Children of veterans in custody/ex-offenders
For veterans, partners/co-parents or children to participate, the children must be 18yrs or under and have permitted contact with their father.
You can participate via face-to-face/phone interview or anonymously online.
All interviews will be conducted at your own pace and with your full consent. No identifiable information (e.g. names) will be included in the final report. We will make any adjustments needed to reduce any concerns e.g. having a support worker present, conducting the interview over multiple sessions or missing certain questions.
