Northumbria University: New approaches to preventing suicide in the Armed Forces community

The Northern Hub for Veterans and Military Families, at Northumbria University, has delivered a report containing preventative measures around suicide.

The findings should help with safety planning in service delivery for Veterans and their families and is part of the One is Too Many programme. The latter aims to reduce suicide risks within vulnerable veterans, in a co-ordinated and targeted way.

The report contains both a Self-Assessment Tool and a Toolkit which organisations can use when looking at the framework suggested within the report.

Toolkit

Organisation leaders, involved in the design and delivery of services are invited to use the Toolkit. This includes those in the NHS, local authorities, the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector and representatives of people with lived experience.

Within the Toolkit a workbook is also included with worksheets to undertake assessment and to help with developing action plans for service improvement.
