Ruby makes a difference for veterans all year round
Meet Ruby, a young fundraiser for the Royal British Legion (RBL) and military veteran child.
A few months back Ruby was entered for the BBC Make A Difference Awards and has just found out that she is a local finalist.
The BBC Make a Difference Awards offer a chance for members of the public to say thank you and recognise those who love to make life better for others. The awards also work in collaboration with BBC Local Radio stations.
Ruby was entered into the Awards by Jenny Komiatis, the Royal British Legion’s (RBL’s) Poppy Appeal Manager in Shropshire:
A number of people nominated Ruby, but my reason was how inspirational she is. Ruby has been fundraising for the Poppy Appeal since she was 5, starting during lock down making Valentines cards, and has only gained momentum since. She is so proud that her father served and is so aware of the issues veterans’ face both during and after service, doing what she can all year round to raise awareness and much needed funds. Ruby embodied everything they were looking for in the award categories and I am really hopeful she gets the win she so deserves.
Shortlisted finalists are notified by May 2024 and BBC Make a Difference Award ceremonies are taking place across England from September 2024.
